Free State 

Mining along with Agriculture are the primary pillars of Free State economy. About 82% of the province’s mineral production is gold. Large scale mining includes gold, diamonds and coal. Small scale mining is made up of clay, salt, granite, gypsum, lime and sand. Free Stare has the largest deposits of coal and bentonite. Mining and quarrying contributed 11.8% to Free State GDP in 2006.
